It’s been a good week for Hull Table Tennis July 2011
Last weekend saw the Hull Junior team of Reece Lo and Michael Fraser travel down to Wellingborough for the finals of the English Leagues Cup. Finishing top of their group, which included a convincing 4 – 1 win over 2nd seeds Leamington Spa, saw them reach the final. Their opponents were Reading, a team which had two players ranked in the country’s top 20. Unfortunately it was a match too far for the Hull lads and Reading ran out 3 – 0 winners, defeated but far from disgraced by a team that on the day were too good.
Next Saturday (9th) sees the English Table Tennis Association awarding a Vice President position to the Hull Association’s Chairman, Richard Hudson. This is in recognition of over 40 years voluntary service to the sport of Table Tennis at local, regional and national levels.
To cap a fine week, Hull’s No 1 player, Chris Clinton, has been selected to represent England in the International Table Tennis Team Championships in Istanbul in August.
All this just 2 weeks before the official launch of the Ping programme which will be running at various locations around Hull for 4 weeks. This will be a great opportunity to promote the sport across the City and to get more people playing.

Rea Balmford Table Tennis Centre
As from the 1st September 2011 there are new rules regarding use of the Centre on a weekend.
To use the centre on a weekend players must either be full Centre Members or, if already an affiliated member of the Association, a weekend member of the Centre. Weekend membership costs £15 per year, starting on 1st September. Whilst this decision is regretable it is necessary to obtain the funds needed to pay the YPI Sports Centre the increased cost of rent they are imposing on us. Friday nights remain open to all Hull & District members at no further cost and Thursday nights will continue to be coaching/practice nights at a cost of £2 for the two hour session, 7pm - 9pm.
